Dropdown Menu not Working, Image Frames not loading, Testimonial Slider not working?

Overview

This article describes a solution if the interactive elements within your WordPress theme have stopped working. This includes things like dropdown menus, homepage sliders, image frames, testimonial slider, etc.

The Cause: Minify/Cache Plugin

This is a common error generally caused when a minify plugin is installed on the website. After a theme (or any plugins) are updated on a WordPress site you’ll simply need to “clear the cache” of that plugin so that the new files are loaded in. Steps for clearing the cache are listed below. Popular caching plugins are Better WordPress Minify and W3 Total Cache.

The Solution:

The easiest solution is to simply disable/delete all caching plugins, refresh the web browser and it’s likely all things will be back to normal.

Another solution is to “clear the cache” of the caching plugin being used. This will load in the updated javascripts and it’s likely all things will be back to normal.

These instructions are for the “Better WordPress Minify” plugin however similar process for other plugins. Simply google for instruction on other plugin:

  • Access the Better WordPress Minify Plugin’s Setting Page located under: Settings > BWP Minify
  • Click the Flush Cache Button
  • Visit your website, refresh the page and check if the issue is resolved
  • If not, disable either the Minify JS files automatically? or the Minify CSS files automatically? Setting
  • Visit your website, refresh the page and check if the issue is resolved
Better WordPress Minify Plugin is only a suggested plugin however it is not needed for the Theme to work. Disabling the plugin will in many cases resolve the issue right away.
